Common land offers some unique opportunities for wildlife. On Gower, the traditional practices of grazing and burning over centuries have created a rich tapestry of habitats such as heathland, wetland and mire. These areas of often associated with small woodlands and scrubby banks of gorse. The principal commons of Gower are recognised for their flora and fauna and are protected by European legislation as Special Areas of Conservation (SAC). To sustain what we have, it is essential that the commons continue to be managed traditionally.
